SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO
Individual arrival in San Giovanni Rotondo, historic city located on the Gargano Promontory.
2° DAY
SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO –VARANO LAKE - RODI GARGANICO
Starting from High Middle Age, San Giovanni Rotondo was one stage of the Longobards' holy path, leading the pilgrims to the "San Michele cave" located in Monte Sant'Angelo.The salty and fishy Varano lake, instead, is the biggest coastal lake in Italy and a thin strip of earth separate it from the sea, whereas Varano and Capoidale outlets connect it to the sea.Rodi Garganico is a small center and from there it is possible to take a boat heading to the Tremiti Isles.
3° DAY
RODI – FORESTA UMBRA – PESCHICI
It is possible to choose 2 alternative roads: one goes directrly from Rodi to eschici and the othe one pass trought the Foresta Umbra. The roe deers living in the Foresta Umbra, for example, belong to one of the most important species in Italy, because they are part of the last three examples of " Italic roe deer" still existing.In the Foresta Umbra we can also meet wild cats, various species of woodpeckers and the charming peregrine, the snake eagle and the buzzard.We have to forcely go uphill in order to reach Peschici. Once on top we will be cuddled by its atmosphere and its sea and Tremiti panorama will surely be a great reward.
5° DAY
PESCHICI – VIESTE
Already populated in the Paleolithic age, today Vieste is a small city very near the sea. Its medieval borgo saw a lot of incursions by pirates, while it is possible to find beautiful sea caves all along the coast.
6° DAY
VIESTE – MATTINATA
Mattinata has a unique landscape. Its sea and the little lovely beaches that made it famous, its pebbles and its sheer cliffs are part of a huge plain where olive trees and almond trees lay.
7° DAY
MATTINATA – MONTE SANT'ANGELO – SAN GIOVANNI ROTONDO
Monte Sant'Angelo is the center on the highest level in the Gargano promontory and the richest in history. Stories about apparitions and an amazing panorama of the gulf of Manfredonia and the Tavoliere make this borgo a unique place in the world.
8° DAY
