1° DAY ARRIVAL - ALBEROBELLO Individual arrival at Alberobello,UNESCO site. 2°DAY ALBEROBELLO – CISTERNINO - OSTUNI Leaving for the Itria Valley: a hollow of Carsic origins, which owes its silver colour to its precious olive trees. As we cycle along the Itria Valley, we arrive in Cisternino, one of the most charming “borghi” in Italy. Enjoy the wonderful panorama offered by the huge valley dotted with trulli. Finally, we meet Ostuni, called “The White City”, because of the buildings blindingly whitewashed, which make up the historical center. 3° DAY OSTUNI –FRANCAVILLA FONTANA - ORIA Leaving for Oria, passing through the little town of Francavilla Fontana. Oria is a lovely little city on the hills of the Murgia Tarantina, placed in an area devoted to vineyards and orchards. The remains of the historical center, mostly built using yellow stones. Oria, once capital of the Messapi then a major Roman trading center on the Apian Way, and evolving into an important Jewish colony. 4° DAY ORIA- GALLIPOLI Leaving for Gallipoli with its golden sandy beaches and surrounded by a lush “Macchia Mediterranea” pinewood – Sightseeing of the historical center with its narrow lanes and typical little churches. The excursion continues by discovering the shores overlooking the Ionian sea: Lido Conchiglie; S. Maria Al Bagno; S. Caterina and the Parco Regionale di Portoselvaggio. From here, we will make a detour towards the Cenate di Nardò, a zone which has a moltitude of magnificent villas dating back to the end of the XIX century – beginning of the XX century. 5° DAY GALLIPOLI – SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA (CASTRIGNANO DEL CAPO – PATU' – GIULIANO DI LECCE – LEUCA PICCOLA – ALESSANO – PRESICCE – LITORANEA JONICA - SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA) Departure to the southern part of Salento, the Capo di Leuca, a land that offers interesting history and culture by discovering its historical centers and medieval borghi; starting from the historical center of Castrignano del Capo and proceeding towards Patù. We will, afterwards, meet the beautiful historical center of Giuliano Lecce and Leuca Piccola.Then we will shift to Alessano, where we can visit the lovely historical center and some “ hypogean oil mills “. We will continue our visit to Presicce: a nice center of peasant origins that has always profited by local handicraft. Once here, we will make a detour towards the sea and then come back to Santa Maria di Leuca, passing through the beautiful and intriguing beaches of the Ionian coast: Lido Marini; Marina di Pescoluse; Posto Vecchio; Torre Vado; Torre S. Gregorio and finally Santa Maria di Leuca. The last thing to see in S. Maria di Leuca is the S. Maria De Finibus Terrae Basilica, an important destination for those who adore the Virgin, which is said to be the Heaven’s door. 6° DAY SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA – OTRANTO Cycling for about 50 kms along the coast of the Terme Salentine; crossing Porto Tricase, we arrive at ponte Ciolo, a magnificent canyon swarming with Mediterranean flora and fauna, overlooking the deep blue Santa Maria di Leuca sea. Castro Marina;the beautiful shores of S. Cesaria, also famous for its thermal baths; then we will arrive at Otranto. There we will admire the beautiful historical center made up of narrow lanes and picturesque courts. 7° DAY OTRANTO – LECCE Excursion to Lecce, continuing along the coast and crossing the Laghi Alimini and the shores of S. Andrea; Torre dell’ Orso; Roca Vecchia; S. Foca, passing through Acaya , with its moltitude of fortresses dating back to the XVI century. Sightseeing of Lecce, the amazing capital of the Baroque art, offering a variety of superb churches and palaces, the historical center and the craftsmen’s workshops of the Papier – maché and Lecce stone. 8° DAY DEPARTURE Bye-bye Salento!
